A Triangular Prominence Hovers Over the Sun

Explanation: Why is there a triangle hovering over the Sun? Although the shape is unusual, the type of structure is not: it is part of an evolving solar prominence. Looping magnetic fields on the Sun channel the flow of energetic particles, sometimes holding glowing gaseous structures aloft for months.
A prominence glows brightly because it contains particularly hot, dense, or opaque solar plasma. The surprising triangular structure occurred last week. Larger than our Earth, the iconic prominence was imaged by several solar photographers and documented by NASA's Solar Dynamic Observatory to form and violently dissipate in about a day.
The featured image was captured in a color of red light emitted strongly by hydrogen. Below, solar fibrils carpet the Sun's chromosphere, while the background sky is so faint in comparison that no stars are visible. Our Sun's surface has been quite active this year.

Ontario will cut off U.S. electricity exports 'with a smile on my face,' Ford says
Speaking Monday at a mining convention in downtown Toronto, Ontario Premier Doug Ford doubled down on threats to cut electricity exports to U.S. border states if the tariffs go through.
“If they want to try to annihilate Ontario, I will do everything — including cut off their energy with a smile on my face,” Ford told reporters.
“They rely on our energy, they need to feel the pain. They want to come at us hard, we’re going to come back twice as hard.”
The United States is a major customer for Canadian electricity, with all American power grids — with the exception of Texas — interconnected with Canadian provinces.
New York, Michigan and Minnesota are Ontario’s three biggest customers of domestically-produced power.

This black hole flare was 10 trillion times brighter than our Sun and 10 billion light years away and we’re just now seeing it.
In 2018 a distant supermassive black hole designated J2245+3743 suddenly flared up , not just a bit, but by a factor of ~40, becoming 30× more luminous than any previously recorded black-hole flare. Scientists believe it shredded a star at least 30× the Sun’s mass, and the light we see now left that region ~10 billion years ago.
If you converted our Sun’s entire mass into energy (E = mc²), you’d be in the ballpark of what this flare output while we observed it.

First direct evidence of “Monster Stars” 1000-10,000x more massive than the Sun
Astronomers have long wondered how supermassive black holes formed so quickly after the Big Bang, given that normal stars can't generate black holes of that size fast enough. Using NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, a team of researchers discovered the first clear evidence that "monster stars" weighing between 1,000 and 10,000 times the mass of our Sun existed in the early universe.
These stars burned brightly for only a short time before collapsing into massive black holes. By analyzing the chemical makeup of a galaxy called GS 3073, they found an unusual nitrogen-to-oxygen ratio that can't be explained by normal stars. This nitrogen excess matches the type of star predicted to exist in the early universe — supermassive stars that produced a lot of nitrogen through a process involving helium and carbon.
When these stars died, they didn't explode; instead, they collapsed directly into black holes, possibly seeding the supermassive black holes we see today. This discovery gives astronomers a new way to study the universe’s first stars and provides important clues about how the first black holes and elements formed in the "cosmic Dark Ages." The researchers hope the James Webb Telescope will find more evidence of these giant stars in the future.
